What inspired you to start an online reselling business as an extra source of income?

I started my small business by selling my own clothing as a hobby on Poshmark. I quickly realized that I was making a lot of money doing this, so I started going to thrift stores, strategically sourcing products online, and reselling the clothes I found there. Additionally, by having my own Youtube channel, “Regina Michelle,” I was motivated to use this platform to learn more about reselling and becoming a business owner. Ultimately I was inspired by Youtube videos shared by fellow resellers. They shared tips on making money buying and selling inventory and I was even more excited to learn about the world of reselling. After a while, I quickly learned that I could earn extra income from reselling part-time, and run a successful online business.

What advice would you give to people who want to start a side hustle or take their reselling business to the next level, but aren’t sure where to start?

My advice to people who want to take their business to the next level is to start by selling items you enjoy and are familiar with on several marketplaces. For example, I started selling clothing in my closet, which worked for me because clothing is a category I know the most about. However, to take my business to the next level, I had to try reselling different categories. This ensured that I was getting the most exposure and not missing out on profits by limiting my business to one category. I also recommend getting all your items categorized and in one place, so you don’t spend a lot of time searching for inventory when they sell. Instead, you can get them shipped to the customer quickly and provide the best customer experience possible.

How do you balance being a wife, mom, reseller, and social worker?

Reseller, Steaming, Listing, Resell

I am very intentional about my time. I like to work on my reselling business when my daughter and husband are asleep. I wake up at 4:30 am to spend time listing and preparing items for sale. Starting bright and early allows me to stay focused with limited interruptions.  On Saturday mornings, I will check out the local yard sales and see if any items that stand out would be perfect for my store.  I also tend to my antique booth, and I sell unique finds for that shop every other Sunday after church. Overall, time management is vital, and I spend about 4 to 8 hours a day on it, and the rest is focused on much-needed family time!

What are the significant differences between the current platforms you sell on, and which do you prefer and why?

I sell on eBay through my store Michelle Fashion Finds, Facebook, and Mercari. Currently, eBay is my favorite platform and where I make the most profit. Facebook Marketplace is the most accessible platform to use, and they have the lowest selling fees. Unfortunately, I no longer list on Poshmark. I’ve learned that it can be very time-consuming, and to be successful on this platform, you must consistently share your closet, which takes time. When considering the right platforms for you and your business, there are several aspects you should consider, such as time, profitability, and success, and you may want to choose a platform where you can list and allow the listing to work for you.

What are your reselling goals for the year, and how do you plan to accomplish them?

My reselling goals are to continue growing my eBay store by increasing my inventory and learning about different selling categories, and high-quality reselling products to help scale up and increase my profits.
