Heather Hooks is a full-time reseller who has been selling on eBay for 12 years. Her YouTube channel and reselling brand, Hooked On Pickin’ , has inspired hundreds of entrepreneurs to start a reselling side hustle. Heather is also a featured reseller on A&E’s reselling reality show, Extreme Unboxing. She’s been a BULQ customer since 2017.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into this business?
I got into reselling because my husband is a pastor and we were looking for a supplemental source of income. I first started off by reselling stuff from around the house and soon realized that this was really great. When I started expanding my business, I would bid on auctions on ebay and flip things. I then moved on to Amazon — first selling as a 3rd party, then with Amazon Merchant Fulfilled, and most recently with FBA.
Tell us what a typical work week looks like for you.
Staying disciplined to work and giving myself work hours can, at times be quite frustrating. My work schedule does shift – the flexibility of this work is one of the most appealing parts of reselling. Generally speaking, Mondays are my dedicated day for sourcing. On Tuesdays, I go through my Amazon store for suppressed listings. I dedicate other days of the week to sourcing retail, doing computer work such as shipping, taxes, and tracking my books, and managing my Merch by Amazon site where I sell shirts that I design. Throughout the week, I ship items out every night (to be sure that I get all of that day’s purchases out the door) and continuously source online using a few liquidation sites. And Sundays are my day off.
What does your relationship with BULQ look like?
I was initially buying cheaper cases because I didn’t have revenue built up. However, my relationship has grown into buying pallets (but space is an issue).
What category and condition of inventory do you typically buy?
Any new electronics and small appliances do well and sell fast (they cost more but I always makes a profit and they don’t sit in the warehouse accruing Amazon fees.)

What are your business goals?
I’d like to private label my own products, and continue teaching other people how to resell.
I’m passionate about helping stay at home mom who want to prioritize their families and increasing views on youtube. I’d also like to organize my schedule a bit better and provide enough income to put away for retirement.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone just getting started in the reselling industry what would it be?
Start slow and learn as you go. A lot of people ask me if you need to have $1000 to get started; I tell them that to just start with $50 and go to a retail store to source for a few items and continue building from there. (Heather got started with just $300!)
